As an extension of the Hands on Philanthropy Program, Thrive Morris Gives! is an initiative of Thrive Morris, that provides opportunities to give back in the community by volunteering for Morris Area non-profits. This initiative is led by Kathy D’Agati, past chair of the Health and Wellness committee.

The History of Hands on Philanthropy

From 2019-2021 one of the H&W committee’s main goals was to inspire health and wellness practitioners to give back to the community. Kathy partnered with Jay Weisman, founder of Legacy Philanthropy Group (LPG) to deliver LPG’s Hands On! Philanthropy (HOP) collaborative giving workshop. This program was a perfect opportunity to build stronger relationships among health and wellness committee members, and to promote their businesses. A hands-on, experiential collaborative giving program delivered great value to the Health and Wellness committee while making a huge impact in the community. Kathy and Jay got Sally Glick, Chief Growth Strategist at SobelCo LLC, involved as a peer mentor. Sally was a singular source of knowledge in her role as a convener in the nonprofit community.
The goals of the Hands on Philanthropy workshop were to explore key concepts around purposeful philanthropy while refining key personal and professional skills such as communication, collaboration, decision making, storytelling, and the sharing of values. Participants were challenged to understand and articulate what social causes really mattered to them and why. With that, those participants formed teams and set out to identify nonprofits that share their visions and passions. To learn about those teams CLICK HERE.
We continue the work through activities of Thrive Morris Gives! and know that one person, and one non profit at a time, we can all make a huge difference!

“I really enjoyed working with Roots and Wings. It gave me insight into the struggles some young adults go through as well as the strides they make to continue their journey. My experience has helped solidify my desire to give back to the community. I look forward to help enable these young people grow and be successful in life.”
Dr. Alan Rauchberg, Rauchberg Dental Group

“It was a privilege to connect with the exceptional young adults at Roots and Wings who were enthusiastically open to receiving tips for lifelong health and wellbeing. I am grateful to them for their gift to me…the reminder that we can all make positive changes at any stage in life!”

Laura O'Reilly-Stanzilis, R.N., North Jersey Health Collaborative
“As a health coach and educator, I frequently conduct workshops and webinars on healthy lifestyle behaviors, but designing a workshop for these young adults who had aged out of the foster care system was a new experience. The team helped me understand the lens of the young adults, and provide information in a way they could receive based on their real-world experiences. I was touched by the feedback of knowing how I helped to positively impact the lives of the young adults.”
Mary Ellen Zung, Hollistic Health Coach

“I learned the impact Roots and Wings has on their clients and trust my donation of time and resources made a difference in their lives. I also learned more about myself and about having gratitude for simple things I often take for granted.”

Lois Manzella-Marchitto, Fitness Knocking

“Participating in the Roots and Wings Health and Wellness week really meant a lot to me. Although I didn’t know the details of their past, I knew my own and knew we would share some similarities. It was important to me to share mine and let them know that there will be experiences in our lives that will bring us down but that we can rise above them and become a productive member of the community.”

Barb Minemier, Your Healthy Truth

“The Arbor Terrace Senior Living Community in Morris Plains is proud to be a supporter of Roots and Wings. Our support comes in many forms including educational opportunities, holiday gifts from our residents to the R&W young people and intergenerational connections with the seniors of Arbor Terrace.”
