Regular exercise is a natural mood enhancer. Studies support the theory that prolonged physical activity causes the body to release mood-enhancing endorphins within the brain, which elevate your mood. (Encyclopedia Britannica defines endorphins as any of a group of opiate proteins with pain-relieving properties that are found naturally in the brain.)

Apart from releasing endorphins, exercise improves self-esteem and attitudes toward life in general. It can be a diversion from everyday stress as you step away from your life for a while to make your body feel strong and energetic. This uplifting feeling can have you thinking more clearly and carry you through a challenging day. Regular exercise can motivate you in all areas of your life. Starting the day with physical activity is a natural way to raise your energy level, improve your focus, and create positive momentum for the whole day.

*If you are experiencing regular feelings of depression please consult with your healthcare provider or a mental health professional for guidance and treatment.
